| How Many Points Are Needed? | ||
Answer: Actually the HVC system is very straightforward. You just have to plan ahead, up to 12 months in advance of your desired stay. The problem many owners have to realize is that as points age, more restrictions come into play. Advance planning will eliminate those issues. |
Most importantly however is that a person can't afford to purchase 1880, 2000 or 2200 point weeks so they buy cheap (1300 points). Unfortunately that really prevents a person from having a wide range of choices to vacation because the 1300 point weeks are in ultra-low seasons and are almost always quite undesirable. The HVC reservation windows (HRPP, CUP, LCUP) will further restrict one's choices because the points "age" while you're waiting for the 1300 point weeks to occur. With owning a 2200 point week, you can go anywhere at any time. Just the opposite is true when you own a 1300 point week. |
To overcome these issues a person is limited to short stays during somewhat higher value seasons. So the owner is very disappointed because they own a full week, but can only stay a few days in a smaller unit during less than desirable weeks. |
Then you learn that your maintenance fee for a 1300 point week at your home resort is the same as the maintenance fee paid by owners of a 2200 point week at the same resort. |

| Reservation of Higher Point Weeks | ||
The question has been asked, whether one can use points from a lower point week (e.g. bronze) for a higher point week like a diamond week? |
Answer: Any points can be used for any week if you have enough points in the appropriate reservation window (i.e. HRPP, CUP or LCUP) and units at a specific resort are available for the desired weeks (or days). If the week or days are not yet available, an owner can still place their name on a waiting list well in advance of the desired stay. Be aware that the points will change status as time goes on. If a reservation is not filled and your points move into the LCUP reservation window, this will restrict your travel plans. LCUP points are only good for reservations where occupancy must occur not later than 60 days after confirmation. |
| How Do the HRPP and CUP Reservation Windows Differ? | ||
Answer: You receive your points 12-months prior to the first day of the week you own. For that 12-month period your use of the points is unlimited. Most commonly you can reserve any available unit in the HVC program. However, for the first 6-months of that 12-month period you have exclusive rights to confirm a reservation for the specific week and unit you own. This is the "HRPP Reservation Window" (commonly referred to as "your HRPP week". You must notify Hyatt if you intend to use your HRPP week (or a portion thereof), otherwise it will be released to other Club members. |
The remaining 6-months of that first 12-months is the "CUP Reservation Window". Like the HRPP Window, you can reserve any available unit in the HVC program. The ONLY difference is you no longer have the exclusive right to reserve your HRPP unit/week. So think of it this way: CUP is actually a 12-month period where you can confirm reservations. |
| Is it More Difficult to get a Short Week Request Filled? | ||
Answer: Hyatt shows no distinction between "full week" requests and "weekend or midweek" requests. An owner's position on the Wait List is the only criteria used in granting a reservation request. First-come, first served! Otherwise, anything other than a "full week" request would have lesser value. |
| Why is the Interval Fee Charged for Each Hyatt Unit Owned? | ||
Answer: Under normal circumstances, Interval often charges only a single fee even when an Interval member owns multiple time-share weeks. However, the Hyatt points program would allow a HVC member to reserve multiple Interval unit-weeks when a single Hyatt unit is owned. This could result in a much higher Interval resource demand compared to the standard program. Therefore, the contract between Hyatt and Interval requires the fee for each Hyatt unit owned. |
| Can Points in Interval Be Returned Back to the Vacation Club Account? |
Answer: No. Once points are transferred into the Interval Program they cannot be returned back into the HVC account. The only option is to use those points to reserve an Interval unit. |
